A Strong Start to My Internship Experience

Starting my internship experience has been exciting, even though I have not officially started my placement with UnidosUS. Before beginning my placement, I have been working with Ilda, our Program Manager at NAFHSA, on several projects that have helped me prepare for the summer and better understand the work that nonprofit organizations do.

One of the projects I worked on involved finding and organizing 29 MSHS affiliate websites to be displayed into the new NAFHSA page to improve accessibility for our community. I also helped with research assignments and helped gather information on farmworker health. These projects required attention to detail, organization, and strong research skills. Through this work, I have gained knowledge on all the health issues farmworkers may face and the struggles they may come across later in life.

Although I have not started working directly with UnidosUS, I am excited about the opportunity to learn more about the organization and its mission of supporting and empowering Latino communities. I look forward to gaining hands-on experience, developing professional skills, and learning how nonprofit organizations create positive change through advocacy, education, and community engagement.

So far my feelings toward the organization and internship program have been very positive. Working with Ilda has helped me feel more prepared and confident as I get ready to begin my placement. Her guidance and the projects she has assigned have given me a better understanding of the expectations of a professional work environment.

I am looking forward to connecting with professionals in UnidosUS and learning from their experiences. Overall, I am excited to begin my placement and take advantage of this opportunity to grow both personally and professionally throughout the summer.
