Being introduced to the staff and professionals at UnidosUS through my internship placement has had the biggest impact on my professional goals so far. Before starting this internship, I did not realize how important networking could be or how much I could learn simply by talking to people who have experience in the field. I have had the opportunity to communicate with staff members, learn about the organization mission, and see how different departments work together to support communities across the country.
One conversation that stood out to me was learning more about the work being done to improve access to healthcare, education, and other important resources for Hispanic and Latino communities. Hearing professionals talk about their career paths made me realize that there is not just one way to make a difference in healthcare or public service. Many of them came from different educational backgrounds and experiences, but they all shared the same goal of helping others. That reminded me that every experience I gain now is helping prepare me for my future career. Seeing how each person’s role contributes to a larger mission made me appreciate how healthcare and community organizations depend on collaboration.

The biggest takeaway from this networking experience was realizing that building professional relationships is just as important as gaining knowledge in the classroom. Every conversation is an opportunity to learn something new, ask questions, and hear different perspectives. Networking is not only about finding future job opportunities, but about creating connections with people who can mentor you, share advice and encourage your professional growth.
This experience has strengthened my goal of becoming a nurse because it reminded me that providing quality healthcare goes beyond treating patients. It includes understanding the communities you serve, advocating for those who face barriers to care for, and working with other professionals to improve health outcomes. As I continue my education and internship, I hope to keep building relationships with professionals who inspire me and help me grow both personally and professionally. I know these connections will continue to shape my career and give me the confidence to pursue opportunities that allow me to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
